Lauren Wan: Summer Ardor - Her Design, Her Life

For Immediate Release:

Paris Koh Fine Arts (201 Bridge Plaza N. Suite 1, Fort Lee, NJ) presents an exhibition titled “Summer Ardor: Lauren Wan – Her Design, Her Life.” which will be held from July 7th to 31st. The opening reception with the artist will be on Wednesday, July 12th, from 6–8 pm.

Can we measure the scope of a person's passion?

The artist's creation fever, which has drawn numerous works full of vitality, feels as hot as the temperature of summer. In contrast, the artworks boast their refreshing charm. The purple beauty of irises piled up with gouache on various papers attracts yellow butterflies, and a cool breeze seems to blow from the green forests of Hong Kong. Flowers and blades of grass that shine more brightly in the detailed darkness are widely publicizing the power of life. The artist puts her sensibility into even one of the tableware we use daily. Her works are based on original paintings in which vividly colored fruits harmoniously harmonize like still life paintings.

With graduating her MA from the Royal College of Art in Textile and Printmaking, Lauren creates contemporary and sophisticated art for today’s leading international brands covering fashion and tabletop, home furnishings, stationery, and fine art. In addition to her commercial success as an established designer, her fine art was selected for the Hong Kong Museum of Art's permanent collection.

Her inspiration is derived from her travels and the beautiful things around her. Lauren’s sensibility and experience richly reflect her emotional and poetic approach to her artwork. We hope to cool off this summer's sweltering heat, like the passion we can feel in her life and design, in the refreshing nature of the exhibition.

Artist Statement

VOIDS

Life

doesn’t occur on its own,

nor can flowers, simply appear.

They need the help of bees and the wind to pollinate.

Life is full of voids,

that others are meant to fill.

That little girl of 2,

with her colored chalks, pavement found,

began her primitive drawing on the ground,

Cantonese opera singers came first, repetitively,

the opulent costume, of course.

Oh, she still remembers her smile with childlike joy,

perhaps,

she was destined to fill a tiny part of the void?

The art world void!

There were times,

she questioned, doubted?

Why art?

She loved journalism an ounce more,

a serious 4th grader.

Does her art convey?

Her paintings hold humanity?

Does the color spark?

And the line work dance, tell enough stories?

Can her work have the power to fill the voids?

She believes,

the work in this exhibition is pure, gentle, and kind;

her much-loved subjects.

Simplicity and honesty matter to this little girl.

Trees, flowers, and birds abound in her world,

cats, dogs, and fish her friends,

dragonfly and cloud her playmates,

all are beautiful things, blessed,

they do not occur on their own,

nor the artist herself,

simply appeared,

they need one another, the love all desire.

Maybe, at some point,

the artist is in the form of colors and paints,

fly over the canvas,

bathed in sunlight,

to share her God-given light,

try to fill the void.

Hallelujah!
