Paris Koh Fine Arts (201 Bridge Plaza North, Suite 1, Fort Lee, NJ), pleased to present a solo exhibition Janghan Choi: Human Evolution. This show will run from Feb. 2 - 28, 2024 with an opening reception on Friday, Feb. 2nd from 6-8 pm.

Choi's multifaceted installations employ the abstracted human form in movement as sign language, thus demonstrating a relationship to collective memory and Jungian archetypes and, in their essentialized forms, to cave painting as well. His drawings can be seen as communication marks and simultaneously as cave paintings, human evolution, or traces of human presence.

​

In his works, mostly a mixture of abstractions made up of what look like small figures, and images of the little figures that line up in rows by themselves, feel a bit distanced emotionally as if Choi were trying to pull his thoughts together about our general condition. The feeling of the work is generally one of nonobjective schematic design and a sense that humanity does not easily rise to heroism, not easily forgotten. Choi creates memorable patterns that have an archetypal grace. He repeats small figures until they become a larger composition. These figures reveal the physical possibilities of the body and the metaphysical implications of our existence. The patterns are simple and primitive, meant to catch the audience's attention. They are repeated in various poses to capture the eye of the viewer.

An Asian painter who currently resides in America creates artwork that reflects his hybrid experience. His art is striking and dramatic, and it attempts to bring order to a world that is both nerve-wrackingly eclectic and unsettlingly unified. Although eclecticism can sometimes encourage uniformity, artists such as Choi remind us that combining different influences can occasionally act as a beacon of hope in a dim world. 최장한 작가의 다각적인 설치 작품은 추상화된 인간의 움직임 형태를 기호화된 언어로 사용하여칼융의 원형, 즉 인간의 무의식에 내재된 공통 기억, 그리고 본질적인 형태의 동굴 벽화와의 관계를 나타낸다. 그의 그림은 소통의 표시인 동시에 동굴벽화이자 인간의 진화, 인간 존재의 흔적으로 볼 수 있다.

작은 형상들로 이루어진 추상화와 그 자체로 줄지어 늘어선 작은 인물들의 이미지가 주로 혼합되어 있는데 이는 마치 최작가가 우리의 전반적인 상태에 대해 자신의 생각을 정리하려고 노력하는 것처럼 느껴진다. 그는 우아함을 지닌 전형적 인간상의 패턴을 창조하는데, 작은 그림을 더 큰 구성이 될 때까지 반복한다. 이 패턴들은 신체의 물리적 가능성과 우리 존재의 형이상학적 의미를 나타내며, 청중의 관심을 끌기 위해 단순하고 원시적이며, 시선을 사로잡기 위해 다양한 포즈로 반복되고 있다. 그의 작품은 일반적으로 칼융의 네 가지 주요 원형의 관점에서 읽을 수 있는데, 그중에 하나가 최 작가의 작품처럼 원으로 상징되는 통일된 전체인 자아이다.

자신의 하이브리드 경험을 반영하는 그의 작업들은 매우 절충적이며 과하게 통합되었지만, 그런 세상에 질서를 가져오려고 시도한다. 절충주의는 때로 획일성을 장려할 수 있지만, 최작가와 같은 예술가들은 서로 다른 영향을 결합하는 것이 때로 어두운 세상에서 희망의 등불이 될 수 있음을 상기시켜 주기도 한다.
