Paris Koh Fine Arts presents the exhibition Intermedia Dialogues: Morfy Gikas, Aleko Syntelis, Jong Rim Song, curated by Thalia Vrachopoulos. The show will run from May 15th through June 8th, 2024 and be celebrated by an opening reception on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024 at 6-8PM.

This exhibition explores art media, and although the works included contain subject matter, focuses on formal considerations that have been neglected in exhibition practices recently. Ever since the post-war avant-garde known as Fluxus in the US or Nouveau réalisme in France, visual artists have moved further away from the Romantic obsession of the so-called genius artist and his creative occupation with a singular art idiom. They’ve expanded their creative practice by incorporating and mixing varied media and diverse practices. Innovative artists Joseph Beuys, Yves Klein and others, used a wide range of dissimilar media in order to amplify their artistic output by eliminating any kind of formal restraint whose single usage of a specific medium entails, giving birth to mixed media or multimedia art.

                                         

In a similar way, this intermedia exhibition constitutes an ingenious dialogue between three multimedia artists who use distinct art media, thus engendering an artistic polyphony containing manifold formal media; painting, photography, sculpture, and collage are connected in this show by a shared geometric idiom that subliminally subsists under all the multifarious transformations of the varying art media. Jong-Rim Song’s series Reflections or DOT, imaginatively constitutes multilayered abstract patterns of light, where ever-changing colors, and minuscule glass bubbles magically generate through light and color, a fantastical cosmos of visual illusions. This multiplex collage finally blooms through the imagination of the viewer into a separate world of fantasy, by this magician of light. Similarly, Aleko Syntelis in his series Infinite Constructs uses photography in order to design a surrealistic space of geometrical and abstracted figures, mainly of architectural forms, where reality itself crumbles under the constructivist reforming of visual space. His artworks, like Song’s, fracture and re-assemble the perceptive qualities of the viewer’s imagination, by iconically (re-)shaping an abstract world of illusionary planes. Morfy Gikas’s blue, black and white, Light and Darkness, 2023 painting series of abstract forms, as well as her minimalist geometric sculptures re-invent a sublime environment (or field), as Smithson noted for Mark Rothko’s non-presentational icons, where the viewer’s imaginal and cognitive faculties dance with one another, in a similar way that Kant describes as a free play of the imagination. Gikas’s sculpture Flight, 2024 metaphorically resembles non-pictorial wings, while her In a Circle, 2024, contains the haptic spherical shapes of various geometric proportions. In her drawings and painting, Gikas’ huge elliptical shapes of mostly blue-black hues, carefully intermingle with her sculptures, like opposite, dynamic substances, while simultaneously interacting with Syntelis’ photographs and Song’s mixed-media artworks, in a truly intermedia dialectic of creative difference and ingenious differentiation.

파리스 코 화인아트 갤러리는 Thalia Vrachopoulos가 큐레이션한 “Intermedia Dialogues: Morfy Gikas, Aleko Syntelis, Jong Rim Song” 전시를 소개합니다. 본 전시는 2024년 5월 15일부터 6월 8일까지 진행되며, 작가와 함꼐 하는 오픈 리셉션은 2024년 5월 15일 수요일 오후 6-8시에 열릴 예정입니다.

 

 

이 전시는 예술 매체를 탐구하며, 작품들은 주제를 담고 있지만, 최근 전시 관행에서 소홀히되어온 형식적 고려사항에 초점을 맞추었다. 미국의 Fluxus나 프랑스의 Nouveau réalisme와 같은 포스트-워- 아방가르드 이후로 시각 예술가들은 로맨틱한 예술가의 고집과 특정한 예술 어법에 대한 창의적인 점유를 떠나 다양한 매체와 다양한 실천을 통해 창의적 실천을 확장해왔다. 이들은 특정 매체의 단일 사용이 가져오는 형식적 제약을 제거함으로써 창의적 아웃풋을 증폭시키기 위해 다양한 매체를 결합하고 혼합했다. 혁신적인 예술가들인 Joseph Beuys, Yves Klein 등은 다양한 매체를 사용 하여 창의적 활동을 확장 했다. 마찬가지로, 이번 인터미디어 전시는 서로 다른 예술 매체를 사용하는 세 명의 멀티미디어 예술가 사이의 혁신적이고 독창적인 대화를 구성하여 다양한 형식 매체를 포함하는 예술적 다성음악을 만들어낸다. 회화, 사진, 조각, 콜라주는 다양한 예술 매체의 다양한 변형 속에서 무의식적으로 존재하는 공유된 기하학적 관용구로 이번 전시에서 연결되었다

 

Jong-Rim Song의 Reflections 또는 DOT 시리즈는 빛의 추상적인 패턴을 다층적으로 만들어내며, 변화무쌍한 색상과 작은 유리 구슬로 마술 같은 시각적 환상의 우주를 창출한다. 이 다층적인 콜라주는 마침내 관객의 상상력에 의해 판타지 세계로 만개하게 된다. Aleko Syntelis는 Infinite Constructs 시리즈 에서 사진을 사용하여 건축 형태를 비롯한 기하학적이고 추상적인 도형들의 환상적인 공간을 디자인한다. 그의 작품들은 JongRim Song의 것과 같이 관객의 지각적 특성을 파괴하고 재조합 하여 추상적인 평면의 세계를 아이코닉 하게 재구성한다. Morfy Gikas의 파란색, 검은색 및 흰색으로 이루어진 빛과 어둠, 2023 페인팅 시리즈는 비형식적인 아이콘으로 Mark Rothko의 것에 대해 Smithson이 언급한 그 고귀한 환경(또는 분야)을 재창조한다. 여기서 관객의 상상력과 인식 능력이 서로 춤추는 것을 Kant가 자유로운 상상의 놀이로 묘사한 것과 유사한 방식으로 발생한다. Gikas의 조각인 ‘Flight, 2024’는 비화적인 날개를 은유적으로 닮았으며, In a Circle, 2024에는 다양한 기하학적 비율의 헵틱 구 형상이 포함되어 있다. 그녀의 드로잉과 페인팅에서 Gikas의 거대한 타원형 모양은 대부분 파란색과 검은색 계통으로 조심스럽게 어우러져 그녀의 조각들과 상호작용하며, Syntelis의 사진과 Song의 혼합매체 작품들과 동시에 참신한 차이와 기지개를 피우는 창의적 차이의 중간 매체 방언으로 작동한다.
