Paris Koh Fine Arts (201 Bridge Plaza North, Suite 1, Fort Lee, NJ) proudly presents “Empty Gaze: Eunyoung Park”. This exhibition will run from June 12th through 29th, 2024 and celebrated with an opening reception on Wednesday June 12th from 6-8 PM.

 

 

Visual artist Eunyoung Park's art reflects a deep connection with natural elements and philosophical themes, exploring the concept of emptiness and the transformative power of human thought.Park's art, which utilizes traditional materials such as water, ink, and natural dyes on hanji, is evidence of the connection between Korean culture and its complex and time-honored processes. Park's artistic journey, which began with her paintings and evolved through performance and animation, now embraces a variety of media, expressing her vision in a rich and multi-layered way.

 

Inspired by her residency and time in Jeju Island, her ‘Waves’ series captures the dynamic energy of the ocean and vast plains, and focuses on the invisible and intangible aspects of existence. Her 'Waves' series, a poignant metaphor for the human condition, tells the story of the constant flow of thoughts surrounding an isolated island. The series conveys a revolutionary message about how free will can elevate persistent thoughts into noble thoughts that transcend suffering.

 

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on Park's work, and her life in Seattle since 2017 has prompted reflection and a deeper connection with her observations, highlighting the transience of life and emphasizing that intangible values are more important than material ones. The 'Empty Gaze' series emerged from this period with the goal of preserving the essence of precious moments and energy beyond their physical form. The Native American healing rituals experienced during her residency at Art Farm in Nebraska inspired Park to explore the concept of emptiness as a source of radiant restorative energy. This series redefines emptiness as a concentrated source of creative energy, a bright, jewel-like space of immeasurable depth rather than a dark void. Through the movement of finite forms and surfaces, the artist conveys the essence of existence, emphasizing how perception shapes our understanding of emptiness.

 

Born in Korea, Park majored in Oriental painting at Hongik University. Artist Eun-young Park began her artistic journey as a painter before turning to animation, where she embraced a diverse range of artistic expressions. Since her move to Seattle in 2017, Park has been deeply influenced by her caregiving experiences and cultural environment. She continues to participate in artist residencies and exhibitions to develop her work and share her unique vision with the world. She moved to New York earlier this year, and she looks forward to continuing her artistic career as a New York based artist.

     시각 예술가 박은영의 예술은 자연 요소와 철학적 주제와의 깊은 연관성을 반영하며 공허함의 개념과 인간 사고의 변화시키는 힘을 탐구한다. 한지에 물, 먹, 천연 염료 등 전통 재료를 활용하는 박작가의 예술은 한국 문화와 한국 문화의 복잡하고 유서 깊은 과정과의 연관성을 보여주는 증거다. 회화에서 시작해 퍼포먼스, 애니메이션을 거쳐 진화한 박 작가의 예술적 여정은 이제 다양한 매체를 포용하며 그녀의 비전을 풍부하고 다층적으로 표현하고 있다.

 

 

     제주도에서 참여했던 레지던시와 그 시간에서 영감을 받은 그녀의 '파도' 시리즈는 바다와 광활한 평야의 역동적인 에너지를 담아내며, 존재의 보이지 않는 무형적인 측면에 주목합니다. 인간의 조건에 대한 통렬한 은유인 그녀의 'Waves' 시리즈는 고립된 섬을 둘러싼 끊임없는 생각의 흐름을 이야기 한다. 이 시리즈는 어떻게 자유 의지가 끈질긴 생각을 고통을 초월하여 고귀한 생각으로 승화시킬 수 있는지에 대한 혁신적인 메시지를 표현한다

코로나19 팬데믹은 박씨의 작업에 깊은 영향을 미쳤고, 2017년부터 시애틀에서의 생활은 자신에 대한 성찰과 더 깊은 연결을 촉발했으며, 그녀의 관찰은 삶의 덧없음을 강조하고, 물질보다 무형의 가치가 중요하다는 점을 강조한다. 'Empty Gaze' 시리즈는 물리적 형태를 넘어 소중한 순간과 에너지의 본질을 보존하는 것을 목표로 이 시기부터 등장했는데, 작가가 참여했던 네브래스카의 아트팜 레지던시 에서 경험한 아메리카 원주민 치유 의식은 'Empty Gaze' 시리즈의 컨셉인 빛나는 회복 에너지의 원천으로서 공허함의 개념을 탐구하는 시초가 되었다. 이 시리즈는 공허함을 창조적 에너지의 응축된 원천, 즉 어둠의 공백이 아닌 헤아릴 수 없는 깊이의 밝고 보석 같은 공간으로 재정의 하고 있다. 유한한 형태와 표면의 움직임을 통해 작가는 존재의 본질을 전달하며, 인식이 공허에 대한 우리의 이해를 어떻게 형성하는지 강조한다.

 

 

     한국에서 태어나 홍익대학에서 동양화를 전공한 박은영 작가는 화가로서 예술적 여정을 시작한 후 애니메이션으로 전환하여 다양한 예술적 표현을 수용했다. 2017년 시애틀로 이주한 이후 박씨는 자신의 돌봄 경험과 문화적 환경에 깊은 영향을 받았다. 박작가는 지속적으로 아티스트 레지던시와 전시회에 참여하여 자신의 작업을 발전시키고 자신의 독특한 비전을 세상과 공유하고 있다. 올해초 뉴욕으로 이주하였으며, 뉴욕을 터전으로 활발한 활동을 이어갈 것을 기대한다.
